EXPERIMENT 3 : FINAL SUBMISSION

MASHUP OF ARTICLE

With the hope to “deliver a transformative piece of architecture, the Monument stands as a silent and dignified space shielded from the highway and road traffic providing controlled vistas toward  the valley.  Some of these spaces become balconies that create their own sense of movement and light, opening up to views of the floors above and below. The most obvious cantilever is the fifth floor, which stretches out over the open aired sculpture garden. Each one of these volumes provides a unique theme and ambiance for interpretation, contemplation and artistic expression.”These enhance the space of the galleries, complementing the artworks displayed while providing a bright and airy exhibition space.

EXPERIMENT 3 : FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOOL AND BRIDGE

Layer

Once I placed the simply constructed school which is based on my initial plan on Lumion, I realized it is too flat and yet I haven't consider the connecting way( the bridge)

To solve this problem, the space in between are minimized. Moreover, each building are arranged in different layer to the extent that the building (gallery and library) sitting at the back won't be hidden by the front one. I try to make sure that each building could have a full view of the scenery.

The final view of school building (without the envelope)

Envelope

It is inspired by the soft accumulated snow on the earth.
The envelope forms the ceiling part and cover the whole building.
The extension part is going to create connection with the bridge.

EXPERIMENT 3 : DEVELOPMENT OF THE PLAN

The plan of school is inspired by The Therme Vals designed by Peter Zumthor.

-
Define separating building for different purpose on the initial plan

Basically, the architectural school is combined by a few separating building. And the building enclosed a central area which could be the walking path, the connecting space.

-
Rearrange the shape of each building

-
I realize it might be too large as a school served for 100 student thus one of the building was removed

-

The final plan of the school

*Library and gallery which required a more quiet environment are placed together.
*Rooms like studio, workshop and computer lab that served for more individual purpose are separated in another building.
*Space that used by a most of the students at one time like lecture theatre and meeting space are constructed side by side.

EXPERIMENT 3 : LUMION ENVIRONMENT AND INSPIRATION

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration of the landscape is the terrace in Yunnan,China.
However, the landform is actually too flat as a type of valley. So I change my mind.

The second plan is the Norway Fjords. It contains a curvy river go through the valley and and lake connecting the land.

When the winter is coming, the mountain turns white with the dark, exposed rock  which is simple and pure. This scene become my final decision about the Lumion environment of my school.
